A couple of years ago, whilst on my first business trip to Munich, I was lucky enough to have a great colleague eager to show me round her beautiful city. It was early May with unusually hot weather. This would mean a walking tour, rounded off by a visit to a beer garden. My perfect type of sightseeing.
After a solid 2 hours walking, we decided to visit the cathedral. It looks magnificent from the outside. Little did I know I was in for a spectacular treat. Someone was practicing on the organ. It was my all-time favourite piece for organ… Widor’s Tocatta.
As I stood in the sweet spot of the cathedral, I heard and felt the music flow through me, around me, the deepest notes vibrating my rib cage. Overwhelmed with emotion, silent tears of joy flowed down my cheeks. It was the first time I’d heard the piece played live.
I will never forget it, or my lovely colleague for handing me a tissue for my eyes.
