JusJoJan 9th – Some words are utterly delicious to say..

Utterly scrumptious! Saying the word out loud with great gusto is a delight. It feels wonderful on the tongue in the same way that delicious food does. It’s one of my favourite words to say out loud. Susurrate is another favourite of mine. Here are my top three thoughts on today’s word, supplied by Maggie and part of Linda G Hill’s JusJoJan challenge.

One of my favourite musical movies is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. When I was a small kid, I wanted a dress like the character, Truly Scrumptious. Long, lacy and topped off with a magnificent hat.

As I grew up Roald Dahl books provided many a giggle. I loved how he played with words. Scrumdiddlyumptious is how Roald Dahl’s BFG describes food or drink he loves the most. It’s as if scrumptious got a side order of extra deliciousness to compliment it. Although I am not convinced of the scrumdiddlyuptiousness of Frobscottle, especially not the side effects of drinking this concoction! You don’t want to be whizzpopping in an enclosed space!

In my early teens I discovered Middle Earth. J R R Tolkien’s character, Gollum has a plethora of brilliant quotes. Whilst this quote is not in the books, it is still features in my top 10 list.

“Is it tasty? Is it scrumptious? Is it crunchable?” sings Gollum in the movie, The Hobbit – an Unexpected Journey. Gollum is assessing the tastiness of fresh Hobbit should Bilbo fail to answer the riddle, thus losing the game. Typical Gollum, trying to win by distracting his opponent.

Happy Thursday everyone xx

  1. Not trying to be a copycat. I always post then read to avoid being influenced. I have vivid memories of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Sweeter simpler times. Well except for the child catcher.
