A few you you may have caught sight of a new menu option on my home page, and may even have spotted the inaugural post. Yes, I’ve decided to branch out a little… ok, I’ve gone ‘out there’ a lot. But it’s a topic that’s intrigued me for years, and I know it’s had the same effect on Jules. We are an insatiably curious pair, and fortunately for us, curiosity hasn’t done away with us cool cats. I think it’s safe to say we are officially post-menopausally batty!

Both of us successfully completed our on-line training courses, started in lockdown 1.0 (UK) for something different to do. And completed in lockdown 2.0 (UK). While everyone else seemed to be baking breads with Paul Hollywood (who can resits those sapphire blue eyes?) and jumping up and down in front of the smart tv with Joe Wicks (more eye candy), Jules and I were pouring over card decks, text books and delivering online tarot readings on a variety of subjects.

Our clients were mostly concerned with their love lives and careers. The occasional request to “tell the future” landed in our inboxes, but we politely declined and rephrased the requests. The future isn’t written in stone. It’s down to the individual to make their own choices. What we do is tap into intuition. Invariable our clients already subconsciously know the answer to their questions… we just bring it to light and uncover options. Most people seemed happy with our readings. This spurred us on to bite the bullet and do our final exams and submissions.

The gin cocktails flowed freely the night we got our results. It’s amazing how much can be consumed in a video call! The hangover the morning after was quite spectacular. I know myself well enough to not utter the phrase ‘never again’. I know full well when we do finally emerge from lockdown, and the pubs are open again, I’ll try to remember to ‘take it steady’ but will have emergency paracetamol and a chilly bottle of water beside the bed, ready for when I finally stagger in.

In a strange turn of events, a colleague of mine interviewed me for our company blog. She was writing a piece on what employees had done to keep themselves occupied (apart from continue to work hard, of course) during the COVID crisis. At first I described the production line of veggies I grew in my greenhouse, my landscaping efforts to create a dry riverbed in a bare and dull section of my garden, but I was hesitant to tell her about my course. Our company is heavily invested in cutting edge technology… where on earth would tarot fit into this?

I asked what everyone else had been up to. Some had invested in Peletons to keep fit. Some did on-line art classes and some turned their 3D printers to great use, providing PPE for the local hospital. All very commendable. She then remarked that nobody had done anything she considered ‘totally bonkers’… then I quietly mentioned what I’d learned, and got a certificate to prove it!

Oh heck… wrong move Cath!

‘Brilliant! I love it. We need more people like you at this time. Intuition and wisdom are often overlooked to our cost. When we are allowed to travel again, we must meet up for a good old chat and bring your deck!’

Well you could have knocked me down with a feather. That wasn’t the response I was expecting but it gave me courage to tell a few more friends and colleagues. I now have a group of them who regularly ask me to read for a variety of situations, and occasionally I get asked to draw a card at the beginning of a meeting to help focus where we need to focus. Consider me gobsmacked (for my non-UK readers – I was jaw-droppingly surprised)
