Thanks to Linda G Hill I have managed to write a little something every day since the New Year. This is a vast improvement on 2019. Mind you, my mind was elsewhere with parental health troubles. Things haven’t changed much. Mum is still stubbornly refusing to do anything for herself unless she is firmly cajoled into it. She has adopted powerlessness as her default setting. It’s extremely infuriating for all of us, not least her medical team, who have told her (and us) that her cancers are responding extremely well, her test results look amazing, and to go out and live her life to the full, seize the day. But all this has fallen on selectively deaf ears. She can still hear me muttering under my breath!!
As a result, it has had the opposite effect on my sister and me. Both of us are engaging the power of now, living our lives with as much energy as we can muster each day. As you know from an earlier post this week, Mr D and I have vowed to have date night once a month and to inject more fun into our lives. We have a booking for a weekend in May to learn how to sail. It’s an introductory taster course to see if we take to the water so to speak. I have some experience with small cabin cruisers but zero with sails, unless you count the ten minutes I took the tiller on a Felucca on the Nile! My sea legs are fine as long as I’m on deck. It’s a different matter when I have to go below deck. Any longer than 2 minutes and I feel icky. This could be tricky if we’re out to sea for the weekend. I make sneak a pack of sickness prevention tablets under my life-vest!
Whatever happens, at least I will have thrown myself wholeheartedly into trying something new. Speaking of new – have I mentioned the idea that Mr D and I should tackle an assault course? I usually run a 5Km race to raise money for Cancer Research UK, but this year, having grown bored of the same old race, I’m shaking things up and tackling the Tough Mudder course. By the time I get to the end of this one, I’m going to need a power shower to get rid of the mud!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
Cath xx
